Friday, July 23, 2010 – Sunday July 25th

Aw, the little baby is all grown up! This year will be the largest Photosynthesis yet, taking over the massive Dragons Sphere Recreation Park in Randle, Washington (same place Day Out of Time was held last year). The line-up is also bigger, balanced with a decent mix of techno, dubstep, idm/glitch, breaks and house. Also in the mix are three invited daytime soundcamps from Northwest crews Bootyresin, NovaTRON Lounge and a joint venture from Plasmodium + Sweatbox.

First tier tickets are all sold out. Second tier tickets are $75 and if you plan on going I wound jump on it fast. They will only get more expensive as we draw closer to the date.

WHAT TO BRING

The Dragons Sphere Recreation Park is a very large, hay, grass and straw covered area used primarily for live action role playing and renaissance fair type events. It’s a big open area with a river flanking one side. Unless you camp along the tree line, there’s really no escape from the hot Central Washington sun. Open + straw = NO FIRE!! So leave your tiki torches and campfires at home. They won’t be allowed on the property. This list could generally apply to many other festivals and outdoor events, but specific to Photo, here are the things you’ll probably want with you:

  1. Sunscreen (duh)
  2. Sunglasses (ditto)
  3. Shade structure (in addition to your tent)
  4. Your tent. (also duh)
  5. Swimsuit
  6. Floaties for river loungin’. The current is very weak and doesn’t move you around much
  7. Propane grill
  8. Rug, carpet or tarp for any place you want to lay or lounge comfortably without being stabbed by straw or random treeline brush
  9. Camping chairs, tables etc
  10. Food and Drink. Once you get there, you’re not going to want to go on a beer run. However, there IS a snack shack on premises with both veggie and carnivore options… if you want to spend $5 on a costco hot dog or $6 on a bud light. It may not be that bad, but I remember not being impressed by the selection.
  11. Hangover food, cures, etc. From the sun, dancing, drinking and/or general partying, at some point you’ll probably feel like a shell of a person. Think ahead and bring the stuff that makes you feel better. Light fare, green juice, ibuprofen, tums, wheatgrass… you get the idea.
  12. Money for any art, goods or services there. There’s plenty to buy, from jewelry to crafts to paintings and any other things you usually find at a festival.
  13. Water. There are water fountains if you run out, but it won’t taste nearly as good as something filtered.
  14. Toilet paper for when the Honeybuckets run out.
  15. Disposable cleaning wipes
  16. First aid kit
  17. WARM clothes. It will get very cold at night, so be sure to pack that hoodie, beanie, legwarmers and jacket along with your bathing suit and flip flops!
  18. Earplugs for if/when you ever want to sleep. (pft, sleep is for pussies.)
  19. Flashlight, or better yet, headlamp. Go pick one up at Target for $15. You’ll thank me.
  20. Deodorant (this one is more for those around you)
