Affin Records Celebrates Their 100th Release
German-based record label Affin dropped their 100th release on Monday, providing the dance-music world with 21 deep and sultry jams built for post-3am revelations. While some of the tracks sound a bit too much like they were built from the same sound banks, there are four particularly unique and driving cuts that should propel you to peruse this release carefully.
My favorite track on the album is YokoO’s “Lueur De’Aube”, a heavily synth-washed and vocoded-out track that would sound best reverberating off a giant warehouse wall during a peak-hour workout. Jame’s Hunter’s “Stalking You” is reminiscent of the metallic and melodramatic work of Alex Smoke, with a subtle undertone of desperate intensity that will make this track shine in the opening or closing hours of the evening. For the straight-up house revival check out Jamal Moulay’s “Le Push” and for a little pure weirdness go with Someone Else’s “A Little Artificial (Little Helper’s Remix)”.
Overall, a solid contribution. These four tracks definitely do the job and have tipped me to a label that is now firmly on my radar for quality tunes. As always, get your ears primed for these in the club as they’ll be on heavy rotation from this discerning DJ.
