Die Antwoord. If you didn’t know, now you know.
I’ve been floored lately how many people have never heard of Die Antwoord, the latest superstars to emerge from YouTube’s culture pool. So with digital megaphone in-hand I shout: FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, GO LISTEN!! For those who love dirty, grimy and painfully smart mishmash of genres, Ninja, Yo-Landi Vi$$er and DJ Hi-Tek are about win a spot on your pedestal… then knock it over and shatter it to pieces while spittin’ profanities to “next level beats.” The crew (also behind other projects like MaxNormal.TV which is worth checking) brilliantly marries tongue-in-cheek humor with party-poppin’ sensibility, touting hip hop culture while mocking it in a way only the South African trio could do. The content is crass, shock factor is high, and while I would never recommend this album to my mom (seriously mom, don’t do it), I’ll keep $0$ on repeat thankyouverymuch. Their debut state-side performance was at this year’s Coachella and even though their font size was smaller than Tiesto’s *cough* you’d never know it from the crowd reaction. Hey Die Antwoord, want to come to Seattle? I know a local promoter who would love to book you *wink, wink*
My dear, I will trust you on this one and won’t listen. 🙂
