BIOGRAPHY
Roberto A. Mendoza, also known as Panoptica, is one of the main figures in the Mexican electronic scene. Counting from the late 80s, he founded bands like electro post-industrial Artefakto and the Tijuana-based norteña-meets-techno Nortec Collective. English DJ John Peel took notice to his production as Panóptica and in 2001 invited him to the BBC to participate in the now-famous Peel Sessions.
In 2005 Mendoza embarked on two projects, one called “Desierto” and the other “Mendoza,” the latter of which involved collaboration with friends like David J of Bauhaus and Love and Rockets. He splintered from Nortec Collective in late 2007 and organized a full band for his live performances, the Nortec Panoptica Orchestra. A new album from Nortec Panoptica Orchestra is in the works for 2010.
For Plasmodium Mendoza has created a mix of “live versions, rare mixes and selections from artist’s that influenced [his] sound.”
